the royalton days. once the pillar of new york, schrager cool. well, ian's gone, but the prop has undergone a major renovation and will offically open its doors next month.
this time expect industrial mod from husband-and-wife design team stephen alesch and robin standefer who've gone vintage metal mixed with buffalo hide in the lobby and suites. then there's the new resto, brasserie 44, from john mcdonald (of lever house fame), and a new bar, 44, that pays homage to some phillipe starck influences. remember: there was a time when you clamored to hang out at this place. and considering all the stories you have to tell, it definitely deserves a thank you.
will the redesigned royalton get a royal welcome the second time around? probably not. (shrug.) but neither did vanilla ice.
