new york | reole out.

contributed by fabiana santana

you were disappointed when your fave power lunch spot closed in early 2008. but in 2009, it's the year of re-invention. the revamped aureole is set to open next week.

the dramatic new setting is something to stare at: a steel and glass floored wine mezzanine overlooks a bar area accented with intertwined chandeliers. like your space? a vast dining room complete with mod chairs and graphic carpeting make for plenty of elbow room, and there's even an outdoor terrace-like area on the pedestrian walkway that runs through the one bryant park building. the space, designed by adam tihany (fonda del sol, daniel), is only to be outdone by the new american menu by executive chef christopher lee (gilt). heirloom tomatoes are paired with sheep's milk ricotta cheese gelato while lobster tail is served alongside pork belly. expect foie gras with blueberries and as well as a scallop sandwich paired with some more foie. and as for that wine mezzanine? over 15,000 vintages will be avail, with 3,500 bottles on display.

you can say they're on a reole. aureole. 135 west 42nd street. at 6th. 212.319.1660. opens june 29th. www.charliepalmer.com
