forget the borrowed. forget the blue. all we really want in '08 is something bright, shiny and new:

thompson twins.
2008 is a big year for the thompson hotel group. smyth tribeca is slated to open this summer and will boast a ground floor resto, an art gallery and a cellar bar. this will also be the first hotel property from the group to offer condos for sale. think ten-foot ceilings, city skyline views, and all the perks of living in a hotel. the thompson lower east side is also in the works for '08. 85 west broadway. between warren and chambers. 212.204.6485. www.thompsonhotels.com

industry standard.
the standard hotels [pictured] are the last word in laid-back style in LA and miami, and now andré balazs is bringing it to our doorsteps. set to open later this year in the meatpacking district, details about the property are being kept under wraps, but we hear there are plans for a rooftop pool. 848 washington street. between west 13th and little west 12th. 212.645.4646. www.standardhotels.com

j'adour.
alain ducasse's newest resto opens this month at the st. regis hotel. adour is not a wine bar, but it's def wine-focused and will feature an interactive wine bar, temp-controlled vaults and private lockers. ducasse named the spot after the river in southwest france near where he was born, and adour stays true to the region. be on the lookout for another ducasse opening this year, bistro benoit. 2 east 55 street. at 5th. 212.710.2277. www.stregis.com

strong as oak.
the duo behind butter opens 1 oak, one of the most anticipated lounge openings of '08. sure it's just another nightclub, but the group hopes the black and white wood floor, ostrich leather sofas and gold faucets in the bathrooms will give this spot an over-the-top luxe feel. expect eats from famed iron chef judge alex guarnaschelli. 453 west 17th street. between 9th and 10th. 212.242.1111. www.1oaknyc.com

shagadelic.
sally hershberger brings her downtown cuts to new uptown digs. slated to open later this year, the woman responsible for meg ryan's shag will share the salon with colorist sharon dorram. talk about a power couple with some powerful prices, like $800 a pop. but now you can take the goods home too. hershberger's hair care line, supreme head, will be avail in stores in early '08. 17 east 71st street. between 5th and madison. no phone yet. www.sallyhershberger.com
