resto p*ong's new dessert spot, batch

you think you know everything there is to know about the game of pong. not so fast. get ready for a challenge at resto p*ong's new dessert spot, batch.

chef pichet ong has already made a splash with his sweet-and-savory spot and was recently awarded with a james beard nod. but don't think writing a dessert cookbook is gonna stop this dessert diva. if you think the menu reads like you're on an exotic island, you're in the right place. yuzu shortbread sandwiches and coconut calamasi layer cake are just some of the more unique offerings. ong is not afraid to jump into the over-exposed cupcake trend: his mini treats come filled with caramel, cream and chocolate. open since easter, sweet-toothed shoppers are coming in for the vietnamese coffee cake and huckleberry chevre pudding. that's right. goat cheese. the former spice market pastry chef is known for his unconventional pairings (he tops fresh crab with apple mousse at p*ong next door). and the village spot reflects his eclecticism: the interior is best described as barbie's dream house gone punk. swarovski crystal chandeliers hang above a fruit-colored room of raspberry pink and lemon lime.

even the pooches are pampered here. foie gras or bacon biscuits are all avail. by the batch, of course.
