lyon's den.

ah pastis. the days when it was one of the only reasons you hung around little west 12th street. (that and the shoes at jeffrey, of course.) but when an ex-past (as in ex-pastis chef) opens the neighborhood's latest resto?

sascha
's debut has been on the burner for quite some time now. first fall, then winter. now looks like it's ready to boil this spring. third time's a charm for chef sascha lyon's trifecta: upstairs at sascha, bar room of gansevoort, and sascha bakery (buttered egos to buttered rolls, and in that order). the entire 10,000 square foot space was designed by glen coben who channeled an old new york saloon using glamorous old-looking chandeliers, exposed brick, dark brown leather booths, and heavy foliage (since new york used to have more green).

lyon is known for his french roots (boulud and verge too), but this time round the food's 100% americana: fried chicken and burgers downstairs, steaks and higher end fare up top.

despite the locale, it's going for that gangs of new york feel. and you might just have to rumble for a table.
