what do you do if life hands you the greatest challenge of your life? if you're tony larocco, you put all your strength into new midtown restaurant, vita, opening next week.

the 30-plus year veteran of the resto industry was diagnosed with leukemia a few years back, but has since made a full recovery. larocco is the man who brought family-style italian to atlanta with fratelli di napoli, and hopes to spread his luck at vita. it's no coincidence that the name means "life," and you can expect plenty of that in his famous rigatoni with vodka sauce. everything has a family bent: tradish southern italian cooking (like mama used to make) will be served up family style in the family-friendly resto. but don't think it's anything like those big-box spots here. larocco has helmed critically-acclaimed eateries in NYC, hilton head and of course, atlanta, so expect great service and even better food.

you only have one life. go ahead and splurge on that eggplant parm.
